Alliston, Angus and Essa are semi-rural communities approximately 40 minutes northwest of the GTA. Alliston is part of the Town of New Tecumseth since the 1991 amalgamation of Alliston and nearby villages of Beeton, Tottenham, and the Township of Tecumseth. The primary downtown area of Alliston is located along Highway 89, known as Victoria Street. The town grew as a commercial center for the area farmers and was best known as a potato-growing area which is still a major industry in the area which is celebrated by the annual Alliston Potato Festival. Honda of Canada Manufacturing operates a large auto manufacturing facility southeast of Alliston, and there is retail and sales businesses. The current population of Essa Township is approximately 18,505. The neighboring city of Angus has experienced a surge in growth in the past 5 years as new sub-divisions have emerged. Conveniently located between both Alliston and Barrie, this city has become a desirable locale for young families and commuters from the GTA due to new home construction, an affordable cost of living and low property taxes. Angus is also the proud home of CFB Borden and it's serving members which has a noticeable presence in the community.
